A day on the island

Nothing but untouched nature...

Houat is beautiful... As soon as you arrive, you will be  fascinated by the port of Saint Gildas, a small typical Breton fishing port. Then, by the quiet the village, with its fishermen's houses, its hollyhocks ... At the end of the main street, you are immediately surrounded by nature: the omnipresent ocean, magnificent white sandy beaches separated by cliffs and coves, crystal clear waters, exquisite flora ... Breathe ... Here you are at world's edge...

A day trip on Houat

Once a week, in July and August, we organize a day trip on the island of Houat with the ferry company Navix.
You will embark at around 9 am from the port of La Trinité sur Mer. Then after a stop at Port Navalo, you will cross Quiberon bay and you arrive on Houat a little before 11 am. Departure of the return ferry between 5 and 5:30 p.m. ...

Only on foot or by bike ...

To preserve the island's environment, motor vehicles are not allowed on Houat ; the only existing public transport is the municipal bus which provides service for visitors between the port of Saint Gildas and the village.
Houat is a small island (3 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide) that is very easy to explore on foot in a day. It takes around 3 and a half to 4 hours to walk around the island by taking the coastal footpath. You can also opt for bicycle rental.

The hatchery

The Houat hatchery is a research and production center for microalgae. The museum part of the hatchery helps raise public awareness of the fragility of the microscopic marine world. There is also an exhibition on the history of the island and its inhabitants since ancient times.
