Mégalithes en Fête and Heritage Days: our last weekend of the season

      • In mid-September the light changes and the pace slows. Kervillen returns to its quiet, and the region treats itself to one last highlight before winter.

        That weekend, two events await you. On the Saturday, Carnac puts its megaliths centre stage.

        On the Saturday and the Sunday, all across France, the European Heritage Days multiply guided tours, special openings and free admissions.

        From the campsite, you are a fifteen-minute bike ride from the alignments, listed as UNESCO World Heritage since July 2025.

        It is also the last weekend of our season. A fine way to close the summer.

         

      • Mégalithes en Fête, Saturday 19 September: Carnac celebrates its megaliths

      • Since last year, the twenty-four towns of Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique have found a festival of their own. It runs for a single day, it is free, and it takes place in Carnac, in the Croix des Émigrés district.

         

        In the morning, the whole area gets moving.

        Twenty-four teams of five residents, one per town, compete in the Quête des Mégalithes.

        Start at 8.30am, kayaking and paddleboarding at the Saint-Goustan harbour at 10.30am, treetop course at the Forêt Adrénaline at 1.30pm, challenges beside the Varquez pond in Erdeven at 3.45pm.

        You do not take part, but nothing stops you from following the action from one challenge to the next, or catching one as it goes by.

        The final, aptly named the Mur des Champions, plays out at 5.30pm in Carnac.

         

        From 2pm, the festival village takes over.

        Twelve challenges open to all, games for children, an exhibition on the megaliths, the regional final of the French oyster-shucking championship, and a forum of ideas where you can have your say on the future of the area. Refreshments and food are served throughout the day.

         

        Then night falls and the mood changes.

        The Kevrenn Alré bagad opens at 6.45pm, the jazz of BPM Trio follows, the Deus Ex Machina company performs its aerial show, and Mister Frenchwax keeps the floor going until midnight.

      • European Heritage Days, 19 and 20 September 2026

      • The same weekend, the 43rd European Heritage Days. Two days during which monuments, museums and local sites offer guided tours, workshops and access to areas normally kept closed, most often free of charge, and almost always with someone there to tell you the story. Friday 18 remains reserved for school groups.

         

        This year, two threads. The heritage of photography, for the two hundredth anniversary of its invention. And heritage at risk, those sites worn away by time, storms or the climate. On a coast like ours, the second needs no explanation.

         

        Around the campsite, there is no shortage of material: the Carnac alignments and their Museum of Prehistory, the megalithic site of Locmariaquer, the chapels scattered across the countryside of the Auray area, the Saint-Dégan eco-museum, the shrine of Sainte-Anne-d'Auray.

         

        Which sites will open exactly, and at what times? The programme is published at the end of August on journeesdupatrimoine.culture.gouv.fr. Come and see us at reception during your stay, we will have the local brochures.

         

      • Getting there from the campsite

      • Carnac is three and a half kilometres away, a quarter of an hour by bike along the cycle path. The first path starts five hundred metres from the campsite exit, and you can hire your bikes on site.

         

        On the Saturday, the centre of Carnac fills up quickly. The bike spares you the parking question, and brings you back to the quiet in fifteen minutes whenever you have had enough.

         

        For Auray and Erdeven, where the Sea and Land circuits of the Quête take place, count on the car.

        Please note: the summer Glazgo Mobilités shuttle no longer runs at this time of year, its lines stop on 31 August.

        Saturday 19 September 2026, in the Croix des Émigrés district of Carnac. The event is free and open to all: the festival village starts at 2pm and the evening runs until midnight. Refreshments and food are available on site throughout the day.

         

        What are the dates of the Heritage Days 2026?

        Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, for the 43rd edition. Friday 18 is reserved for school groups. The programme for the sites of Morbihan is published at the end of August.

         

        Can visitors take part in the Quête des Mégalithes?

        No. The twenty-four teams each represent one town of the Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique area, and entries are closed. You can, however, follow the challenges freely, and the festival village in Carnac offers twelve challenges open to all.

         

        Is the campsite open during that weekend?

        Yes. We welcome you until Sunday 20 September 2026: that weekend is the last of the season. The heated pool at 27°C stays open, as do the grocery shop and the restaurant Les Terrasses de la Plage.

         

        How do I get to Carnac without a car?

        By bike, along the cycle path: three and a half kilometres, a quarter of an hour, hire available at the campsite. The summer shuttle does not run in September, its lines stop on 31 August.

         

      • After the concerts and the visits, you return to the sandy path, the sea air and the calm of the Kervillen headland. That is our way of ending the season.
