Beaches in Quiberon
High place of Breton tourism, the Quiberon peninsula offers about 30 kilometres of coast.Renowned for its beautiful long beaches, it has many facets for those who take the time to explore.
Quiberon's Grande Plage
The most popular and beautiful beach is directly in the city center next to the port (Port Maria).
Facing full South, it offers a very beautiful stretch of sand and allows swimming at any time.
In summer, arrivals and departures of the boats which sail to Belle-Ile en Mer, Houat and Hoedic punctuate the activity of the port!
The Grande Plage is accessible to all: for people with reduced mobility, a spcial beach wheelchair service is available.
It is under lifeguard watch in the summer and has a first aid station, as well as showers and toilets.
The Albatros club welcomes children, young and old, as well as teenagers, in July and August.
It offers swimming lessons in a heated and covered pool, as well as fitness and water walking for adults.
There are many bars, restaurants, ice-cream parlors, shops and the "Promenade de la Plage", for a pleasant stroll along the sea front.
Other beaches to discover...
- Goviro beach and the Thalassotherapy beach are fine sandy coves, located at the thalassotherapy center of Quiberon.
An emergency terminal for rescue is on site. It can be reached on foot, by bike or by car.
- Le Goulvars beach is a very quiet and more rough sanded beach. There are no lifeguards.
- Le Conguel beach, located at the extreme South-Eeast of Le Conguel point, sheltered from western winds, the la plage de la Jument, on the suthern end of the point are quiet beaches, far from the bussle of the town centre.On the car park at the start of Le Conguel Point, you will find toilets and an emergency terminal, but also picnic tables and spaces for parking bicycles.
The beaches on the bay side of the peninsula...
On the bay side, from the Pointe du Conguel at the end of the peninsula to Les Sables Blancs in Plouharnel, many beaches and coves, most often sheltered from western winds, are ideal for swimming, fishing in rock pools or for Water sports. Boating, marinas and sailing schools enjoy a direct access to the bay.
- The Airfield beach is a large and beautiful sandy beach, often sheltered from the wind. It is an ideal place to observe takeoffs and landings of aircrafts.
- Fort Neuf beach, is ideal for sailing and jet-skiing lovers because it has a boat launch for all sailboats and motorboats. facing the East, it shelters swimmers from the West winds. Parking is at the foot of Fort Neuf.
- Porigo beach is a sandy beach located near the marina of Port Haliguen and the sailing school. It is appreciated for its sun in the morning and its orientation. It has a launching pad for sea outing enthusiasts.This family freindly beach is under lifeguard watch during the months of July and August. A seahorse chair for people with reduced mobility is also available at the first aid station. Showers and toilets are present near the beach.
- Kermorvan beach is another beach on Quiberon Bay. From here you can see Port-Haliguen in the distance. The sand is more granular.RGR34 hikers can refresh their feet and visit the nearby pretty village of Kermorvan.
- Castéro beach is a small family friendly beach, located on the Quiberon Bay side of the peninsula. Beware, at high tide, the beach is completely covered ! parking spaces and toilets are nearby.
- Saint Julien beach is a beach of fine sand and rocks, ideal for playing at low tide. You can see the coast of Carnac and watch the regattas.
On the ocean side : the Côte Sauvage...
On the ocean side, it is forbidden to bathe on the beaches of the Côte Sauvage because of the groundwell wave phenomenon, powerful invisible waves that arise near the shore and pull swimmers out at sea.
La Côte Sauvage is a remarkable natural site of Brittany, it can be explored along a 8 kilometre long coastal path which allows you to admire its beaches, cliffs and natural caves.
The beaches of the dune cord that connects the peninsula to Erdeven are huge and appreciated by board sports fans.
The Tire-Bouchon : a tourist train to go to Quiberon
In summer, access to the Quiberon peninsula is very difficult: to come to the beaches of Quiberon for the day, it is not advised to go by car (especially during the weekend).
We advise you to use the "Tire-Bouchon" (a small train linking Auray to Quiberon that stops in the different stations of the peninsula, along the sea).
