The campsite and its activities

      • Straight onto the bike from the campsite gate, and never back into the car all week

      • Here, a cycling holiday starts at the campsite gate. The first cycle path is 500 metres away, and it takes you all the way to the Carnac standing stones, the beaches of Locmariaquer and the Quiberon peninsula, without ever getting back into the car.

        Here are our favourite bike rides starting from La Trinité-sur-Mer, from a gentle family outing to a proper long loop, with distances, timings and the best stops along the way.

      • The cycle network starts 500 metres from the campsite

      • You leave the campsite, turn left, and 500 metres further on you are on the path. From there, the network runs towards La Trinité-sur-Mer, Carnac, Saint-Philibert, Locmariaquer, Plouharnel and all the way to Quiberon.

        Most sections are separated from traffic or follow very quiet lanes. That is what makes this part of South Brittany genuinely rideable with children, and it is also what lets you leave the car parked for your entire stay.

      • The Marshes Loop, the ride that starts at the campsite

        The closest loop, and probably the most restful. A flat route between the marshes and paths lined with gorse, best ridden early in the morning for the birds and the light. An ideal choice on windy days: inland, you are sheltered.

        Perfect for a first outing with children, or for filling a late afternoon without giving up the whole day.

      • The Carnac Standing Stones, the one you cannot miss

        Circuit no. 2 takes you to the rows of menhirs at Le Ménec and Kermario. Allow half a day if you stop as you please, a full day if you add the prehistory museum and a swim on the way back.

        The alignments reveal themselves far better by bike than by car: you follow the lines of stone at your own pace, and parking is simply no longer your problem.

        Planning your visit: the megalithic coast

         

      • The Grand Tour of Locmariaquer, facing the gulf

        Head for the Grand Menhir Brisé and the Table des Marchands, then the Pointe de Kerpenhir, where the ocean meets the Gulf of Morbihan. Watching the boats work their way through the narrows is worth the trip on its own.

        Take a picnic with you: the Rolay and La Falaise beaches are both on the route.

        Also worth discovering: the beaches of Locmariaquer

         

      • Crac'h, Saint-Philibert and Locmariaquer, the long loop

        This circuit links the three villages, following the Crac'h river and then the Saint-Philibert river. Oyster beds, slipways, coves and small harbours come one after another, well away from the crowds on the beaches.

        It is the longest of the four, and also the most varied. An electric bike puts it within reach of the whole family.

        Fancy going further? The Quiberon peninsula and its wild coast are reached via Plouharnel and the Penthièvre isthmus. Allow a full day and a decent pair of legs: this route takes you beyond the waymarked circuits of the area.

      • Cycling as a family: what to know before you set off

        • Helmets and child seats are lent with every bike hired at the campsite.
        • Set off early in July and August: the paths are quieter and the heat easier to handle.
        • The wind usually comes from the west. Ride out into the wind and you will be pushed home.
        • One water bottle each: refill points are rare on the countryside circuits.
        • The Kervillen grocery shop, 150 metres from the campsite, opens at 8 a.m. in high season for your picnic.

      • Are the cycle paths suitable for children?

        Yes. The first path is 500 metres from the campsite and most sections towards Carnac and Locmariaquer are separated from traffic or follow very quiet lanes. Helmets and child seats are lent with every bike hired on site.

         

        How long does it take to reach Carnac by bike from the campsite?

        Allow around 15 minutes on the cycle path to Carnac beach, 3.5 kilometres from the campsite. To see the rows of standing stones, follow waymarked circuit no. 2: 8 kilometres and around 1 hr 50 of cycling.

         

        Can I hire bikes directly at the campsite?

        Yes. Adult bikes, children's bikes, mountain bikes and electric bikes are available at reception, by the half day, the day or the week, with helmet and child seat included. Prices and booking are on our bike hire page.

         

        Can I spend a car-free holiday in La Trinité-sur-Mer?

        Yes. Kervillen beach is a 5 minute walk away, the grocery shop and restaurant are 150 metres away, and the cycle network serves Carnac, Locmariaquer and Quiberon. In July and August, the summer shuttle buses complete the picture with a stop right by the beach.

         

        Where can I find maps of the area's cycle routes?

        The free Loopi app, produced by the Bay of Quiberon tourist office, brings together the waymarked circuits and works out routes for you. The circuits booklet can also be downloaded from the site and picked up at campsite reception.
